National Landcare Awards coming up fast

We're counting down the days till hundreds of landcarers gather from every part of the country in Canberra for the National Landcare Awards. The big night is Thursday 23 October. And this year for the first time you can vote in the people's choice award.

The awards are a very special event for landcarers, when those who've been judged as the most outstanding gather together in the nation's capital. The ceremony is held right in the heart of the country - in the Great Hall of Parliament House, showing just how important landcare is to Australia's future. The bush comes to the city in a ceremony that's friendly and good fun.

Awards are made in ten categories of landcare excellence - including landcare in schools, farms, community groups, indigenous landcare, Coastcare, regional landcare, local government and nature conservation.

The winners are a closely guarded secret - only a tiny handful of people know who they are until the moment they're announced. So there's plenty of excitement and anticipation, plus some friendly rivalry between the states!

This year for the first time our landcare ambassador Jack Thompson will present the People's Choice Award to the finalist who receives the most votes from the broader community at http://www.landcareheroes.com/. Visitors to the new website can register to vote for nominees across ten categories. The nominee registering the highest number of votes collectively will be announced as the People's Choice Award winner on the night.

Give it a go! Our landcare finalists represent some of the finest stories of landcare that you will hear. Have a read through and make your vote.

Yours in landcare

Brian
